Wilton Little League is excited to introduce an expanded Wilton Warriors Travel Baseball (WWTB)program for players at the 9U–12U levels.

The goal of the program is simple: provide more competitive baseball opportunities for more Wilton players, create a consistent development pathway, and give our players the opportunity to compete at a high level while continuing to represent their hometown.

Below are answers to some of the most common questions we've received from families.


What is Wilton Warriors Travel Baseball?

Wilton Warriors Travel Baseball is an expansion and improvement of Wilton Little League's existing travel baseball program.

The program is designed for players seeking a higher level of competition and development while continuing to play baseball in Wilton. The expanded structure provides greater consistency across age groups, more competitive opportunities, dedicated winter training, and continuity between the spring and summer seasons.


What age groups are included?

The 2026–2027 Wilton Warriors Travel Baseball program is for 9U, 10U, 11U, and 12U players.

Players at the 7U and 8U levels will continue through Wilton Little League's House League structure and are not required to participate in the August Warriors evaluations. Additional travel opportunities will be available for those players during the summer.


Will there be tryouts?

Yes. All interested 9U–12U players must attend an evaluation in August.

Evaluations will be held:

  • Sunday, August 23 at the Wilton YMCA
  • Sunday, August 30 at the Wilton YMCA

Players only need to attend one of the two evaluation dates.

Evaluation times are:

  • 9U: 12:00 PM
  • 10U: 1:15 PM
  • 11U: 2:30 PM
  • 12U: 3:45 PM


Are there cuts?

No. Our goal is to provide a travel baseball opportunity for every player who registers and participates in evaluations.

We are aiming to field two teams at each age level, with approximately 12 players per roster. Teams will be organized as Blue (A) and White (B) teams.

Final team configurations will depend on registration numbers at each age level.


How will players be evaluated and teams selected?

Evaluations will include independent evaluators, along with previous-season coach evaluations when available.

Our goal is to place each player in an environment where they can compete, develop, build confidence, and have a positive baseball experience.


Why is there a $200 evaluation deposit?

The $200 evaluation deposit is not an additional fee. It will be applied toward the player's Wilton Warriors Travel Baseball tuition.

The deposit helps ensure that players attending evaluations intend to participate in the travel program so that we can accurately build teams and rosters.


What league will the Warriors play in?

Wilton Warriors teams will primarily compete in the Greater Hudson Valley Baseball League (GHVBL). 

GHVBL provides Wilton teams with access to competitive opponents throughout Connecticut, New York, and the surrounding region.


What does the annual Warriors schedule look like?

The program is designed around four distinct baseball periods:

Fall — Optional

  • Participation is optional.
  • Approximately one practice and one GHVBL game per week.
  • Players do not need to participate in Fall Travel to retain their winter, spring, and summer roster spots.
  • We understand baseball is an offseason sport for many players in the fall and encourage participation in other sports.


Winter — Training & Development

  • Two 60-90-minute team practices per week from approximately January through the end of March.
  • Workouts will be team-specific rather than broad age-group sessions.
  • Training will include hitting, pitching, fielding, strength and conditioning, and other skill development.
  • Winter training will primarily take place at Batter's Eye in Norwalk.


Spring — Rec + Travel

  • All Warriors players are required to participate in Wilton Little League Spring Rec Baseball.
  • Warriors teams will have approximately one travel practice and one GHVBL game per week in addition to their Rec schedule.


Summer — Travel

  • Warriors teams continue into the summer.
  • The anticipated schedule is approximately two practices and two games per week, including GHVBL competition.
  • Little League District Team participation is handled separately from regular Warriors team placement.


Is Fall Travel required?

No. Fall Travel is optional.

Players who participate will be expected to commit to their team, but we recognize that many players participate in soccer, football, hockey, and other sports during the fall.

The anticipated Fall Travel schedule is approximately one practice and one game per week.


Are winter workouts mandatory?

We strongly encourage Warriors players to attend as many winter sessions as possible because the winter program provides the developmental foundation for the spring and summer seasons.

At the same time, Wilton Little League supports multi-sport athletes and understands that players may have commitments to other sports during the winter.

When possible, players may have opportunities to attend another session for their age group if they have a conflict with their regular team workout.


Does my child have to play Rec Baseball in the spring?

Yes.

All Wilton Warriors Travel Baseball players are required to participate in Wilton Little League Spring Rec Baseball.

Our Rec program remains the foundation of Wilton Little League. Keeping Warriors players involved strengthens the entire league, builds relationships among players of different skill levels, and maintains the community aspect that makes Little League special.


How much baseball should families expect during the spring?

Families should expect a significant baseball commitment.

Players will participate in both their Spring Rec team and Warriors Travel team. Depending on scheduling, that can mean baseball activities approximately five days in a week.

The Warriors program is intended for players who are excited about baseball and want a more competitive baseball experience.


Will the spring and summer Warriors rosters be the same?

Yes. One of the goals of the new structure is greater team continuity between the spring and summer seasons.

Players will remain with their Warriors team rather than having the travel program start over when spring ends.

The Little League District Team is a separate process.


What if my child improves significantly after the August evaluation?

We expect—and want—players to improve throughout the year.

Youth players develop at different rates, and one of the primary purposes of the Warriors program is to help every player make meaningful progress.

August evaluations will establish each player’s Warriors roster for the upcoming season, and those rosters are intended to remain consistent throughout the year. This continuity allows players to develop within a stable team environment, build chemistry with teammates and coaches, and focus on their own growth over the course of the season.


When will practice days and times be announced?

Schedules will be released as soon as possible after registration numbers and team configurations are finalized.

Wilton Little League already has scheduling templates based on prior seasons, but we need to know the final number of players and teams before assigning specific practice days and times.


Can my child still play other sports?

Absolutely.

Wilton Little League strongly encourages young athletes to participate in multiple sports.

We recognize that fall and winter are traditionally offseason periods for baseball and will work to provide reasonable flexibility during those seasons.

At the same time, families should understand that the spring and summer portions of the Warriors program represent a meaningful commitment to competitive baseball.


What does the program look like for our younger players?

Our younger players will continue to build their baseball foundation through Wilton Little League House League, with additional development and travel opportunities introduced as they progress.

Why is Wilton Little League making these changes?

Youth baseball has changed significantly, and Wilton Little League wants to continue evolving with it.

The expanded Warriors program is designed to:

  • Provide more competitive baseball opportunities for more Wilton players
  • Keep Wilton athletes playing together rather than feeling they need to leave town for outside club programs
  • Replace invite-only travel rosters with open evaluations
  • Create two competitive teams at each age level
  • Provide more consistent player development and instruction
  • Build stronger continuity between winter training, spring baseball, and summer baseball
  • Strengthen both our travel and recreational programs
